When you see cinematic execution like this you know why people don’t care about movies anymore.

Max Payne – Story Trailer

Our Rating:
3.8

This trailer attempts to be that hollywood-style, story trailer they all want us talking about but falls well short due to its poorly constructed action sequences and transitions.

SoulCalibur V – Website

Our Rating:
7.3

Alas, a gaming website that fully and properly integrates with Facebook and other social media platforms. For that alone, it’s cutting edge.

Mass Effect 3 – Special Forces Trailer

Our Rating:
4.4

This is a little different from most multiplayer trailers and provides a nice, quick insight into a few of playable characters’ characteristics and abilities. But that’s all this trailer does well. The rest of it contains a myriad of cookie-cutter action sequences back-to-back-to-back-to-back-to-back…

The Darkness II – Launch Trailer

Our Rating:
6.9

All in all, this launch trailer is pretty sick. And using pure cinematics to focusing on the game’s main attraction, the relationship between Jackie Estacado and The Darkness, works well here. But where we lose interest, is in this trailer’s last 30 seconds. Too much talking, not enough action.

Soulcalibur V – Box Art

Our Rating:
2.7

soulcalibur v box artThere is way too much going on with this over-illustrated mess of a design. Then again, “Soulcalibur’s” gameplay has always been pretty chaotic too. Coincidence? Probably not.

Resident Evil 6 – Debut Trailer

Our Rating:
3.0

This starts off great, but like most trailers that last longer than three minutes, it’s way too long for its own good. So by the end of the damn thing, we’re bored out of our minds. But what’s most upsetting is its failure to live up our own “Resident Evil” standards, which has steadily increased since the original’s debut in 1996.

Inversion – Box Art

Our Rating:
4.7

inversion box artThe whole “turned on its side” concept has been done before, but I guess it works here because of the game’s title and antigravity gameplay. Look to see this box art hit the shelve’s February 7th.

Binary Domain – Bigger Than You Think Trailer

Our Rating:
6.3

As of late, interest in “Binary Domain” has been on a downslide, especially after Sega pushed back the release date to February 28. So in efforts to boost morality, they dropped this “Bigger Than You Think” trailer, full of face ripping carnage, intense action sequences, and a deeper explanation of the storyline. But there’s one obvious flaw, the song attached to it is over-sentimentalized and unfitting for the game it represents.

Star Wars: The Old Republic – Box Art

Our Rating:
7.7

star wars the old republic box art“SWTOR” released late last month and has produce a healthy increase in sales ever since. Being an MMO, most of its purchases are made online with digital copies downloaded directly to the buyer’s computer. However, those still interested in obtaining a physical copy can still find them littering the shelves of their nearest video game store. On it, they’ll discover a Drew Struzan-style box art bread for the 21st century. With layered images representing both sides of the force, this design has everything the original “Star Wars” movies posters had, with one exception, a completely computer rendered, digitized look. It doen’t carry the exact same feel as Struzan, but it’s pretty damn close.
